What do we do?

Our vision at the Rural Business Network is to be an independent community of support, guiding farmers and rural entrepreneurs throughout their business journey. Whilst completing this vision, we organise lots of online and offline events to help you progress in your rural business journey and offer lots of support through monthly Rural Business Connect and to one session.

Why pick Rural Business Network?

Jo Martin, the founder of Rural Business Network, used to bake cakes, which she successfully sold at 4 farmers markets each month, as well as supplying the local farm shop, butcher and a couple of tearooms. The cakes were so popular and the business could have grown if she had someone to point her in the right direction.

She needed knowledge. She needed connections. She needed inspiration. She needed resources. She needed support. She needed a community. She never found one.

Therefore to join with Rural Business Network, you are joining a community built by someone who has real-life experience with farm diversification and understands the struggles that can be present. Throughout her time running the Rural Business Network, Jo has also made many contacts within the industry to enable us to be able to point you in the right direction or connect you with someone who can.

Our marketing and events assistant, Grace Gibbs, has grown up on a beef and sheep farm that has diversified into holiday cottages. She has first hand knowledge on how tourism based farm diversification works and has knowledge within the sector from her time at Harper Adams University.

Together Jo and Grace make a very strong team, and will endeavour to help you with your rural business journey.

We are so busy on the farm, why should I join?

We are very glad that your business is keeping you busy! But we all know that from time to time we need some support, or we have questions to ask. We can help with that.

We will always help to connect you with like minded people throughout the industry, and with specialists in the area in which you are wanting to diversify into. Our events are regular, and the content varies so that whatever stage you are at in your diversification journey is relevant to our diverse membership.
